Mammootty plays an arrogant police officer named Rajan Zakaria who has a negative shade in his total attitude. He happened to come to a village named Kalipuram at Kerala-Karnataka border to investigate the death of the son of a senior officer played by Siddique. Siddique’s son and his future wife reported to be dead in a maoist attack, but the characters played by Mammootty and Siddique had their own doubts.

When Rajan Zakaria reaches Kalipuram, he accidentally meets Kamala (Varalakshmi Sarathkumar) who is the keep of Nambiar (Sampath) who is going to conduct election from there. Later Rajan Zakaria’s encounter with Nambiar and the solving of the murder case forms the crux of the plot.

Mammootty had previously given lots of young and fresh talents an entry in to Mollywood and many of them had went on to become popular directors here. Now, we can add one more to that list and it is Nithin Renji Panicker who proved through this film that he will be here for long. Nithin Renji Panicker had showed his skill as a director through his first movie itself. As a writer and director, he had full control over the proceedings and has given an output which satisfies both the fans and film lovers alike. Even though the story is a predictable one, Nithin has told it in a very entertaining manner with all the mass elements to satisfy the die hard fans of Mammootty.

The punch one liners written by him is the high point in the screenplay of this movie. He used the charisma of Mammootty and really used the actor’s great potential to create mass with his unique stylized movements. The way he told the story was indeed very good by mixing up mass elements at right places which made the fans thrilled to the core. He never let the things go out of his hand and we can feel the Renji Panicker fire in this movie by his son as well.

When it comes to the performance side, Mega Star had rocked the show with his stunning stylized performance as CI Rajan Zakariah. His dialogue delivery was superb and the way he carried the character with his unique style and attitude was just amazing to watch. Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar had made her debut here in Mollywood a grand one as well. She had delivered a powerful performance in her first Malayalam movie and her screen presence was too good. Artists like Sampath, Siddique, Maqbool Salmaan, Jagadeesh, Neha Saxena etc were also good. Even though Maqbool Salmaan had less screen space, he has done well.

The brilliance of the technical crew had also helped the movie. Sameer Haq’s DOP was superbly cool and the frames he set were stylish and really set the tone of the movie. Rahul Raj had done a very good job as the music director and the background music was brilliant as well. It enhanced the total effect of the movie as a mass entertainer.

In total, Kasaba is a complete Mammootty show and it is a film for his fans to enjoy.
